Star Wars and Disney

I was just reading an article on elements of the Star Wars’ Expanded Universe that should be considered strongly for the new Disney-produced Star Wars films. You can catch up on that article here.

In the comments section, I was moved to write my opinion of what will happen with those new movies. I’ve taken the liberty of reproducing my comments below;

“What are the chances that a massive company like Disney will listen to it’s fan base? Even if that base was just purchased from Lucas? I don’t know. However, I do know they will be alienating much of that base if they don’t listen, even a little. They need to throw us some bones.
But, things being like they are, Disney is likely going to ignore everything that has previously been created – sans the 6 “canon” films and the animated show – and make up their own stories. The only goal they have in mind is ‘Revenue Generation’. Every choice they make will be based on that, to the detriment of the creative and artistic sides of the Star Wars universe. If they can’t find a way to make money off of it, they won’t do it – even if they should. And if they CAN find a way to make money off of it, they’ll include it – even if they shouldn’t.
The days of Disney making moves that are “art” are long gone. They died when Walt died.
I tremble in fear for the sanctity of the Star Wars universe.”

For those of you who are Star Wars fans, or for that matter Disney fans, I’d love to know what you think will happen.
Thanks!
